Forty-year friendship ends in tragedy

Charlot Zahra

The forty-year-old friendship of two elderly men ended in tragedy after one of the men murdered the other and then committed suicide in Qawra yesterday.

The victims are Carlo Sant, 69, from Qawra, and Benjamin Fenech, 80, from Mosta.

Preliminary police investigations established that Fenech killed Sant with a single gunshot in his face, then killed himself in the bedroom a few rooms away.

Sant’s corpse was found lying in a pool of blood in the front room of the residence, while Fenech’s corpse was discovered with at least two shotgun wounds in his chest. A shotgun was discovered lying next to Fenech’s corpse.

It is understood that the two men had a quarrel over property a few days ago, which was left unresolved.
