LETTERS | Sunday, 04 November 2007 Pippo, divorce and my vote Pippo Psaila, in his interview with MaltaToday, does not cut corners in explaining his stand on issues such as divorce. While his straightforward approach (unlike other politicians’) is commendable, he epitomises a reason why the sensible part of the electorate should ensure the Nationalists do not win the next election. The reason is that Pippo represents a party that, whilst selling the image of a forward looking party, is actually in favour of 1950 style policies that blur the difference between a secular government and the Church. Another five years of this government and we will slowly but surely continue our journey to become a Vatican satellite state – even before 2015. We have witnessed thousands of Turks protesting against what they perceived is a threat to their secularity, but few realise that it is subtly happening here, in large part because of some religious fundamentalists who are running the government. Whilst giving Pippo my best wishes, I feel that I cannot vote for this party until significant changes take place. A. Debono Sliema
