Mepa: shifting the goalposts

Earlier this year I submitted some three objections to MEPA regarding scandalous building permits the authority had issued against regulations and the wishes of the people and, therefore, contrary to the purpose for which MEPA was established.

With reference to these objections, I now receive regularly, from MEPA, two or three letters every week to “notify” me that “fresh plans may have been filed by the Applicant”. I am then advised that “fresh plans may be viewed at the MEPA during office hours (9am to 12 noon).

From the frequency of these letters, even a dimwit can see what they mean. They are nothing but a clear case of constantly shifting goalposts, and making them wider still, until the goalkeeper is exhausted and they are certain to score a goal. It is blatant collusion with the few against the many. At this time I salute the besieged residents of Qui-Si-Sana and Tigné, particularly those groups fighting their cause. It takes guts and determination to go against a monster like MEPA but to sustain one’s efforts… It goes beyond words!

Do take heart, though. Constant public pressure has certainly made their ride not as comfortable as they would have thought. Recent “concessions” should be a clear sign to all of cracking walls. Uneasy lies the Authority, but more so will be any authority that may be professing detachment while directing MEPA from the wings.
