East side of Manwel Dimech bridge opened

The east side of Manwel Dimech Bridge was reopened for traffic yesterday morning, bringing to an end the first half of the project which is already significantly delayed.
Roads Minister Jesmond Mugliett said the west side will be closed shortly for demolition and works to start. At present vehicles can make use of both sides of the bridge.
The decision has however drawn criticism from the Malta Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises - GRTU, which said the ongoing works were having an adverse effect on businesses in the area.
The GRTU is urging the government to keep both sides open over the peak Christmas season.
