NEWS | Sunday, 20 February 2008 ‘Political transfers’ taking place before elections, says Gulia Labour MP Gavin Gulia yesterday said a letter from the Police Corps had ordered the transfer of 149 police officers last week.
“It is obvious that these transfers were not ordered according to the corps’ exigencies but so that Lawrence Gonzi’s government, which had promised a new way of doing politics, serves those officers closest to the party’s core,” Gulia said. The Labour shadow home affairs minister condemned the transfers, saying the corps’ needs are being sacrificed on the altar of political convenience. “Truly everything is possible under a Nationalist government, even 20 days prior to an election. This is a government that is unashamed of creating such a commotion just to get four votes. “Police officers know it hasn’t been easy for them to get a transfer for justified reasons and because they were ignored and refused. Police officers now have to realize that these transfers are stinking of political partisanship.” Any comments? |
