Work-to-rule directive for ITS teachers

The Malta Union of Teachers yesterday directed all lecturing staff at the Institute of Tourism Studies to work to rule until further notice.
The MUT said it had reports that following a recent two-hour strike, the ITS management was now in breach of the collective agreement over discrimination, intimidation and victimisations of union members and participants in the strike.
It said the management had withdrawn all exchange visits abroad with immediate effect. “The MUT council strongly condemns such actions which only create further tension, animosity and discontent,” the union said.
The union also ordered lecturing staff to refrain from performing any duties in connection with class attendance registers, or to assist students in handling cashier duties at the institute’s points of sale, including its restaurants.
It said non-union members would enjoy full protection from the union if they adhered to the directives.
It also ordered members not to hand in first semester exam papers.
Two weeks ago, the MUT ordered a two-hour strike for academic staff which was adhered to by the entire staff.
