Reference is being made to an article entitled “Failed escapee allegedly beaten in prison” penned by Raphael Vassallo published on the 13th August 2008 on pages 1 and 2.
Contrary to what Mr Vassallo is alleging, the officers escorting Mr Perry Ingumar Toornstra were Correctional Officers and not Police Officers as erroneously stated in the article.

Reference is made to your news item on Mr Tornstra and the Corradino Correctional Facilities. This is to inform you that the newly set up Prisons Board of Visitors took immediate action, upon learning about the incident, even visiting Mr Tornstra in hospital. 
At this stage, the situation is being monitored very closely.
