Knock, knock… don’t open! It’s AD!

Karl Schembri

Canvassers working for Labour candidates have been shadowing AD secretary general and candidate in Gozo Victor Galea, following him on his home visits from their car and instructing residents through their mobile phones not to open the door.
The candidate told MaltaToday how, after several families had welcomed him inside their house in a particular street in Kercem last Wednesday, he realised all of a sudden that nobody else was answering his calls.
“It was weird,” Galea said. “From a certain door onwards, nobody was answering any longer. Then it suddenly dawned on me that the people in this car following me – all canvassers of a Labour candidate – were calling residents and telling them not to open when I knocked on their doors.”
Galea said he noticed the car following him on other occasions too. On his blog last Wednesday, Galea wrote: “The people in the car thought that I am stupid. Of course I realised that one of the men was calling people via his mobile instructing families not to open the door. This was confirmed later by three families excusing themselves for not opening since they are ‘afraid’ of the three men in the car. How funny. The three men in the car were helping me acquire some new votes! These tactics are of old.... and self-destructive. When will these people learn?”
