England’s most capped right full back and Manchester United captain Gary Neville has now applied to redevelop an existing villa at picturesque Ta’ Cenc in Sannat, Gozo.
The application was presented by architect Edwin Mintoff to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority in October last year.
Constructed in the 1960s, the villa is presently uninhabited. Neville is seeking MEPA’s permission to demolish the existing villa, excavate a basement and reconstruct the villa’s ground floor.
Gary Neville’s villa is one of 10 existing villas on the Mgarr ix-Xini promontory which were all constructed in the 1960s. Developer Victor Borg, the owner of the Ta’ Cenc Hotel, had applied to construct 38 other villas in the same area.
The footballer has a long standing relationship with Malta, having served as an official tourism ambassador since 2001 and working with Air Malta to promote Malta, which he has regularly visited since childhood. He has also bought an apartment in Portomaso, St Julian’s.
The Malta Tourism Authority and national airline Air Malta sponsor the Gary Neville Soccer School on the island, which Gary tutors during the summer.
