PRS For Music responds

In a statement issued late yesterday, Malta’s licensed collecting society confirmed that it has been approached by the local performing artists’ union, and that it is considering past claims for royalties.
“PRS for Music has been approached by UKAM following the meeting held in Malta this week and the executive team will be convening in the next 48 hours to discuss the items raised,” the society’s PRO Barney Hooper said. “This follows various consultative meetings held throughout the year with PRS for Music members in the country.
Hooper added that following issues highlighted in March and subsequent visits to Malta to consult with members, PRS for Music put in place a special one-off scheme to attempt to meet past claims for unlogged and unlicensed radio broadcast royalties.
“The ‘special allocation’ was agreed at a meeting with members in July and thereafter all Maltese members were informed about how to claim. The scheme closed at the end of September and payments to claimants are in the process of being made.”
