Religious festas and bombs

Religious festas and bombs, two words that don’t go together, just like heaven and hell.
The fireworks at night are nice because they give out a gorgeous spectacle, but the kaxxa infernali is a bad tradition! If the gelatine bombs during a festa are a tradition, that means that somebody had started them, and so it could be a bad tradition, which in fact it is.
I’ve heard people say that producing bombs is a hobby; if it is a hobby it is a very dangerous hobby. And if it is a dangerous hobby I would suggest they work and let them off far away in a desert, away from Malta, not near people who live in a highly populated country, who have to hear the bombardment all throughout the summer.
With the excuse of tradition we are ignoring human rights. I ask, what is the reason for firing bombs? Bombs are usually used during a war against the enemy – therefore they have nothing to do with a religious festa!
On our island we have many old houses and damaged too, and you hear people say that they are afraid when these bombs are let off because of the tremor and blast of the bomb, which harms their building. I hope that those that work these bombs will understand that there is no pleasure in seeing children, animals, and sick people being afraid of the noise of the bombs, which also does harm to everybody’s hearing!
All kinds of bombs should stop: they are a nuisance and a waste of people’s money, burnt within a few minutes! I wish these bombs were prohibited by Parliament.
Wouldn’t it be better, if the Church added more music or band marches? Or having bells ring when statues leave or enter the Church, with the choir singing hymns, instead of the nuisance of firing bombs? I think the festa then would be nicer.
Saints’ feasts should be celebrated in Church without having the procession externally – we have too many feasts already. External feasts should be primarily dedicated to Our Lady, Christmas, Easter, and Corpus Christi.
Every year people complain about the bombs during the festas. I hope next year the voice of the people will be heard.
