Censors are board of classification

The Policy Working Group would like to point out certain inaccuracies in the article “Censors to be removed from Police remit” (7 February 2010). The article referred to the draft Cultural Policy: Malta 2010 which was launched last Saturday by Minister Dolores Cristina.
A ‘censorship board’, as referred to in the article, does not exist. A Board of Classification does, which currently has the right to censor according to the law. This Classification Board falls under the remit of the Ministry for Justice.
The Policy recommends that the classification board be placed under the Ministry for Culture and that the law is updated to reflect 21st century reality. The recommendations are there, the law needs updating. We look forward to the many positive changes that will come about as a result of this important document.
