New decade, new design, new editor

MaltaToday’s 535th issue marks the newspaper’s tenth year with a new, fresh and brighter design that captures MaltaToday’s style, the first choice for Sunday news readers.
MaltaToday’s newsroom and its intrepid and dedicated journalists have reported the news and the stories behind the news for the past decade, and remain the prime reason behind MaltaToday’s successful increase in readership.
Matthew Vella, who has been acting editor since March 2009 is today officially the editor of MaltaToday; and is accompanied by the newly appointed deputy editor, David Darmanin. Matthew Vella has been working with MaltaToday since 2002. The newsroom is made up of journalists James Debono, Raphael Vassallo, and Karl Stagno-Navarra. We aim to offer the best and most independent news and analysis on the island. Teodor Reljic assists Matthew Vella in the subbing and proofing of the newspaper, who also contributes heavily to our culture section.
Added to our news-team are our regular columnists Michael Falzon and Evarist Bartolo, David Friggieri and Claudine Cassar, gardening columnist Maurice Mizzi, business analyst Mark Lamb and restaurant reviewer Monique Chambers.
The new design has been created by Zvezdan Reljic, from ZED Creative Studio, who has over the years injected new ideas and driven MaltaToday’s creative style. Studio manager Kevin Grech heads the rest of the design team, made up of Kristina de Giorgio and Denise Scicluna, who is also a photographer for the newsroom.
Kevin Grech also contributes heavily to MaltaToday’s sports section along with Mark Attard.
Undoubtedly, Head of Sales Adriana Farrugia and Marthese Bonello have allowed the newspaper to keep its head above the surface as business endured a decline in 2009. Behind the scenes, Jonathan Perrett as administrator and Gillian Bajada as secretary and our collector and driver Charlton Mifsud have been the backbone for the operations of the company.
MaltaToday is also accompanied by the drive of our fellow colleagues in our very successful sister newspaper Illum, the Maltese-language weeky, captained by Harry Vassallo, with Julia Farrugia, Franica Pulis, Charlot Zahra and Mark Attard.
Last but definitely not least, Roger de Giorgio, MediaToday’s managing director, who sits on practically every editorial and management meeting and with his vast experience in the media makes it a point to give his valid contribution.
As we enter our 11th year, MaltaToday keeps up its commitment to be your first read on Sunday.
