To mark 10 years of MaltaToday, an anniversary party was organised at the Temptasian restaurant at The Palace, Sliema, where over 200 guests attended the evening on the top floor of the 5-star hotel.
Guests and staff were welcomed by managing director Dr Roger de Giorgio, who said that MaltaToday’s success was thanks to its incisive journalism and a very faithful readership. He paid tribute to the staff and the late Julian Manduca, who died in 2005, and Ebba von Fersen Balzan, the late wife of managing editor Saviour Balzan. He also thanked the advertisers and advertising agents for their support over the years.
A video marking the last ten years of MaltaToday was screened, after which Saviour Balzan gave a short speech on the inception of MaltaToday.
Balzan thanked the Mediatoday staff, and presented gifts to the longest-serving employees: studio manager Kevin Grech, head of sales Adriana Farrugia, administrator Jonathan Perrett, collector and driver Charlton Mifsud, and secretary Gillian Bajada.
Amongst the guests present for the anniversary party included PBS chairman Claire Thake Vassallo, Labour secretary-general Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, Dr Toni Abela, Perit Michael Falzon, Dr Joe Ellis, Prof. Joe and Theresa Friggieri, Henrik Piski and Janet Grech, Chev. Maurice Mizzi, In-Nazzjon editor Alex Attard, Il-Mument deputy editor Joe Cassar, l-Orizzont editor Mr Frans Ghirxi and his wife, Marie Benoit from Standard Publications, Mr and Mrs Angelo Xuereb, Alfred Farrugia, Saviour Grech and Alfred Caruana from Union Print, Mr and Mrs Louis Borg Manché, Mr and Mrs Alex Tanti from Michael Attard & Co, Mr Tony Aquilina and Mr Eddie Aquilina from Promotion Services, Mr Peter Fleri Soler from Emirates, Mr and Mrs Winston Azzopardi, Dr Richard and Doris Galea Debono, Dr Philip Manduca and Denise Briffa from Definitely Good Guide, Ms Astrid Vella from Flimkien ghall-Ambjent Ahjar, Mr John de Giorgio from Shireburn and Monique Chambers, Ms Sarah Grech, Ms Giselle Balzan Demajo, Ms Marisa Schembri, and Ms Rosanne Navarro.
At the end of the evening all guests were presented with an anniversary wine – a 2005 Marnisi Cabernet Sauvignon from Marsovin, together with a 10th Anniversary memento with the top 20 breaking stories.
