Maghtab’s twin peaks

Anbody driving along the coast road cannot help but notice a small white hill rising next to the larger Maghtab dump hill.
The new ‘hill’ consists exclusively of clean material produced from the excavations for the Ghallis engineered landfill. No new construction and demolition waste is accumulating in the new hill, a Wasteserv spokesperson told MaltaToday.
The material which is being stored will be used to cover the closed Maghtab landfill to create a clean surface. Some of this material shall also be used to produce the engineered soil at Maghtab. These works will commence as soon as MEPA issues the relevant permit. €28 million in EU cohesion funds from the EU’s 2007-2013 budget have already been allocated for this purpose.
