A museum of printing for Malta

A committee of the Kunsill Nazzjonali tal-Ktieb established by the Ministry of Education and Culture has been recently set up to explore the possibility of setting up a museum of printing and of aspects related to it for the Maltese islands. The setting up of such a museum would indeed constitute an important addition to our museums, particularly given the country’s rich history in this regard. It would, moreover, add to our rather limited number of museums that deal with the more recent periods of our history and with aspects of popular culture. The intention is that such a museum would be a hands-on and interactive one, which would allow visitors the experience the history of printing and of the printed word in Malta in a stimulating way.
The committee would be grateful to any individuals or institutions who would like to help by providing information and, or access to visual or written records or to artefacts which are in some way related to the history of local printing. Information about printing and binding machinery and tools used locally and about the processes involved would be particularly appreciated. All help received would be duly acknowledged. Correspondence may be sent at william.zammit@um.edu.mt (tel. 21691836), or info@ktieb.org.mt.
