Behind the fall of the Shipyards

MaltaToday’s damning revelations about the Shipyards seem to overlook one disturbing suspicion.
Many believe that the mismanagement of the ‘Yards was allowed to happen by design. The ultra conservative, almost fascist wing of the Nationalist Party, who are represented by at least two ministers in Gonzi’s Cabinet, have always had a bitter hatred towards the shipyard workers.
This is because the ‘Yards were always the Mecca of socialism, the eight army of the Labour Party, the backbone of the General Workers’ Union. Someone was determined to mismanage the ‘Yards and allow them to lose millions so that government would be applauded when it decided to close it.
Sacking the highly-skilled Dockyard workers and sending them to cut grass on roundabouts must have given the sadistic instincts of a certain minister tremendous satisfaction. Witness how the dockyard workers were for many years vilified. Note how public opinion was manipulated to make people believe that these workers were all corrupt and scum. The conservative press and their allies played an important role to execute this plan.
Daily, these Judases sell their soul to work in perfect concert with the Nationalists Party to make the people believe that horse dung smells like perfume. Many believe that it was a well-designed strategy to close the ‘Yards. Not for economic, but political reasons.
Only a week ago it was revealed that the dockyard lost millions of liri on a contract which was flawed. The General Workers Union called for an enquiry. The government treated this call with almost contempt and disdain, as if nothing has happened.
The millions of euros lost on that contract were not paid by Austin Gatt from his salary or from the money he prayed for his Jaguar. It was paid by me and you, the taxpayers.
