Investing in an Opera House bond

A lot of correspondence has been written about the Opera house, destroyed during World War II. I believe the Old Opera House belonged to the people of Malta and once rebuilt should belong to the people of Malta not a few politicians, that lack goodwill.
I believe that we surely could find a band of fifty men of goodwill among the population to set up a council and launch an Opera House bond, to rebuild the opera house as it once was in all its majesty. And it should be used exclusively for cultural, musical and operatic works.
The bond would not offer any return to the investor but it should be quoted on the Stock Exchange so that if anyone who initially invested falls on hard times, they would be able to redeem his/her investment. Why should the people of Malta not feel proud to have a stake in a monument to olden times? A stake in our proud heritage? I for one would offer all I can afford in honour of my father, who many times in his youth had small parts in famous operas in the early 1900s. Why should we always think in profit and return? For once the people of Malta, so generous in good causes, should contribute to the national pride of owning a piece of history, a piece of grandeur that Malta once was.
It matters not who the architect of the Opera House is. Piano or fiddle matters not – all that matters is that it is rebuilt as it once was.
Splendid. Malta deserves a national monument. Let us for once not be selfish and give ourselves generously for posterity. Surely the people of Malta can afford to ‘donate’ €200 million – this is only a contribution of €500 per person, not a princely sum. We have many well to do people in Malta, many that hold dear the operas so popular all over the world. We Maltese for once should do something for ourselves and not wait for Britain, Germany, Italy or all of Europe do something for us.
I hope that my idea would spark into a reality and people of good intent come forward to see a dream come to fruition. We have many retired judges, lawyers, businessmen that have plenty of grey matter and the will to contribute by way of money, work, ideas and fervour to light up all the people for a magnificent cause.
