Artists Dennis Calleya and Kevin Attard ought to be congratulated for a very original exhibition of drawings and filigree they put up at the Museum of Fine Arts in Valletta. The two managed to blend together the art of making filigree and the art of drawing. Each filigree object had its counterpart in a drawing.
Named ‘Raw and Pure’, the exhibition was set up in the halls housing the paintings of Mattia Preti and guests took the occasion to also admire these renowned paintings. Music from a quartet of the Junior College Orchestra directed by Maesto Manoel Pirotta enhanced the occasion. The drawings were set in glass caskets and each filigree counterpart was set on top of the glass surface.
In a few words to inaugurate the exhibition, Dr Louis Laganà praised the artists for their intricate work and said the Museum of Fine Arts encourages such initiatives and is only too pleased to house such an exhibition.
