NEWS | Wednesday, 4 June 2008 More inclusivity for Labour, Falzon says Labour deputy leader for party affairs, Michael Falzon, yesterday said Labour needed a positive and inclusive vision to regain the reins of government.
The leadership contender said Labour’s vision had to be one of success if the party was to be victorious at the next election. “It has to be open to every Maltese and Gozitan, of every age. It has to be open to people of any social status, including graduates and professionals. It has to attract the best minds in the country. It has to be a party that is more open and relevant to everybody. “The party must accept the pluralism of ideas within it. Constructive criticism must be encouraged and accepted. We have to stop the mentality of considering conflicting opinions being at loggerheads with each other. The party must have space for everyone, even for those who have left. Everyone must find their place within the part,” Falzon said. Falzon even said that nobody should be considered privileged in the party leader’s milieu. “Everyone should feel they belong to the party. Anyone who is an activist and a supporter of the MLP should feel the party is theirs, and that they have a role to play in its work and success.” Falzon again pledged greater accessibility for the party structures and the general public, through the creation of structures aimed towards offering a customer care service. He stressed the need for organised door-to-door visits that would reach a greater number of people, and involved as many people as possible in the creation of policies. “As a party we must remain committed to strengthening dialogue with the social partners, and anybody who is ready to contribute towards the good of Maltese society. Not just listening, but more than that, we remain committed to paying heed to those we listen to.” Any comments? |
