Death of a gentleman

Self-made entrepreneur and former Federation of Industry (FOI) president Valhmor Borg, who passed away on Friday morning at the age of 82 at Capua Hospital, Sliema, was one of the dying generation of self-made family entrepreneurs who built a business empire single-handedly, while at the same time never losing sight of their humble origins.
As former banker and university lecturer John A. Consiglio aptly put it when asked for his reaction to Borg’s death, “the Maltese business community has lost another gentleman of the old school, someone who built up a good business during particular economic and political phases of the country’s development.
“It’s always sad to see people whom one would have come into contact with during one’s professional life pass away, and as committed Christians we can only watch and pray, and hope his dear ones find in Christian solace the peace and respite they deserve,” Consiglio told MaltaToday.
The funeral leaves St James Capua Hospital tomorrow at 2pm for St Joseph parish church, Msida, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30pm, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery.
The family’s wishes are that instead of flowers, donations to Caritas, his favourite charity, would be appreciated.
