Sammut highlighted problems faced by residents in his constituency - Sant

“Dr Sammut highlighted problems faced by residents in his constituency. These problems must be addressed and Dr Sammut’s interventions were meant to achieve this legitimate aim. This is what an MP is there to do,” Alfred Sant told MaltaToday when asked to comment about Labour parliamentarian Joseph Sammut.
Yet Labour leader Sant insisted: “If what he said amounts to a proposal to establish a distinct bus service for immigrants, not only do I disagree, but I disapprove of it, without reserve. Such a proposal would go against all MLP policies, past, present and I am sure future, that deal with the need to ensure full human solidarity against all forms of exploitation and oppression.”
The little known Sammut had spoken out on problems concerning Birzebbugia residents on Bus 13 route. He had raised the issue of having a separate bus service for black migrants. Alfred Sant argued; “Dr Joe Sammut spoke in Parliament last week about the issue you raise and again this week. He’s also had a letter published this Tuesday in The Times to further clarify his statements. For fairness’ sake, all that he said must be published, not bits that fit in with the conceits of a few people.”
In his answers Alfred Sant did not venture into whether Sammut should resign from the Labour party or whether he intends asking Sammut to resign.
