Malta’s presence at Kachynski funeral

I refer to the article by Gerald Fenech (18 April, 2010) in which your journalist alleged that Malta was not present for the Polish President’s funeral.
It is not true that there is no Ambassador of Malta to Poland. Mr Godwin Montanaro is Malta’s Ambassador to Poland. Ambassador Montanaro was on his way to Poland and due to the thousands of cancelled flights in the last days, he was caught up in Istanbul airport. This did not make it possible for Ambassador Montanaro to be present for the funeral. In fact only six ambassadors made it to the funeral. Around 50 ambassadors did not reach Warsaw due to flight cancellations.
Besides, President Emeritus Edward Fenech Adami had accepted to represent the President and the Government of Malta in the said funeral but could not attend for the same reason.
Such information was asked for by other media and genuinely reported. However, MaltaToday did not seek to check such facts.
