Three completed, eight more pelican crossings in the pipeline
Transport and Infrastructure Minister Austin Gatt revealed that three pelican crossings have recently been completed by Transport Malta, with a further eight still pending. He was replying to a PQ by Nationalist MP Censu Galea.
Around €60,000 in consultancies for Ghadira road
The same minister revealed that the total amount of consultancy fees in relation to the Ghadira Road project amounted to €20,229 and GBP 30,632 with the consultants being the MIA, Professor Kenneth Pye and Swansea Metropolitan University. The question was asked by Labour MP Roderick Galdes.
Just two bus shelters in four months – no speed cameras for the moment
Minister Austin Gatt confirmed that two bus shelters were constructed in Luqa Road and Sir Paul Boffa Avenue in Paola from December 2009. He also confirmed that the policy on speed cameras is currently being reviewed and that the applications for these cameras will have to wait. He was replying to Censu Galea.
Committee for Fort St Elmo
Minister Austin Gatt also revealed the names on the Fort St Elmo Committee which was constituted in 2009 and which met on five occasions in the same year to study four applications submitted to MEPA. These are Chris Paris, Claude Borg, Jesmond Schembri, Joe Magro Conti, Joseph Caruana, Joe Said, Mark Portelli, Martin Galea and Stephen Spiteri. The minister was replying to Labour MP Owen Bonnici.
Over 423,000 days of sick leave
We leave the best for last, with Education and Social Security Minister Dolores Cristina telling Parliament that the Social Security Department paid out benefits for a staggering 423,362 days of sick leave in 2009, which is more than the whole population of the island. She was replying to Labour MP Noel Farrugia.
