Lacking an administrative committee in Manikata

Manikata is a community forming part of the locality of Mellieħa, with several distinguishing characteristics form other small communities of its sort. Among these one must mention the community’s overlooking parish church dedicated to St Joseph and the Park tal-Majjistral, which borders this rural picturesque community. Apart from this, Manikata is also a centre of commerce to all the farmers that have their own fields around this area.
However, the Labour Local Committee Mellieħa, with the respective PL councillors sadly note the fact that this community has been denied an administrative committee – also being called a mini council – forming part of the Local Councils Reform currently underway. Whereas sixteen other such small communities have been assigned an administrative committee, the PL Local Committee in Mellieħa is of the opinion that Manikata cannot be denied such a tool as it will be losing out on opportunities open to such committees. Among these, one must mention financing schemes set up specifically for the use by such committees and also projects financed through EU Funds.
Therefore, the PL Local Committee along with the respective PL councillors in Mellieħa recommends this community to the respective authorities in order for it to be assigned a mini council as part of the local councils reform. This should be done in order to ensure that the needs of the people of Manikata are catered for and so that Manikata will continue with its development as has been the case under preceding local councils governed by a PL majority between 2002 and 2008.
