Is Labour in the business of serving the Church, or the Maltese citizen?

It is unfortunately starkly evident to a substantial group of Maltese citizens of unquestionable left-wing leanings, and whose integrity is beyond reproach, that the Labour Party’s credibility is at present heavily constrained by the fact that a number of individuals within its ranks are in no uncertain terms seriously contradicting the very foundations of left-wing thought.
The latest example being that of Gozitan Labour MP Justyne Caruana, with her Taliban ideas on the abortion issue. Apparently, the Labour Party has really missed the boat these days: instead of showing its mettle in unison, as a party capable of stopping the all-too visible rot and capitalising on the fact that the PN, whenever crucial civil liberties that are anathema to the Roman Catholic Church crop up they are either sidetracked, shelved or completely ignored.
This disquieting situation does not of course augur well, and one does not have to be endowed with great intelligence to imagine where all this is likely to lead, unless the Labour Party pulls its socks up and starts to act as the driving force for the issues that really matter.
How much longer must the unfortunate Maltese citizen remain immersed in this medieval time warp, that has for a considerable period strangled his civil rights?
