MIA looking into new routes

Online website therouteshop.com has reported that Malta International Airport is looking to intensify routes to Warsaw and Naples.
The two routes are already served by Air Malta, but MIA says there is a growth potential from the Warsaw catchment area, while Naples is a main catchment area from Italy – Malta’s second biggest tourism market.
As from next spring, Air Malta will now be including Turin and Genoa in their flight network, while Ryanair will connect Malta to Bari in Italy.
Additionally, Warsaw Chopin and Katowice airports are also looking for airlines to serve a Malta route. Katowice itself provides access to six capitals – Warsaw, Prague, Berlin, Bratislava, Budapest and Vienna.
MIA is also looking for airlines to fly to St Petersburg, where “the growing Russian community and holiday-makers in Malta have been on the increase as Malta’s climate, rich culture and history have proven to be an appealing all-year round destination,” MIA says.
Another route is Shannon in Ireland, where service from Malta is non-existent. “Significant opportunities are available for new route operations as demand continues to be felt for travel to the Maltese islands from the Irish market,” MIA says.
Cologne Bonn Airport is also looking for airlines to serve a Malta route, which would give access to the Benelux countries as well as France.
Doncaster-Sheffield, home to Malta Tourism Authority sponsored Sheffield United, is also looking to establish a Malta route.
