Attorney General’s appeal on MEPA officers in Mistra case

Reference is made to Mr Saviour Balzan’s contribution (22 November 2009) under the heading ‘JPO and the Attorney General’ which made reference to the fact that my office has decided to appeal against the decision given by the Court of Magistrates in connection with the so called ‘Mistra application’.
For a number of years now I have exercised restraint in regard to contributions to your paper by Mr Saviour Balzan and other contributors notwithstanding the manifest aspersions and slanderous remarks thrown at me by the same on various occasions. I have done so in deference to the rights of press freedom and because I do not consider myself immune from criticism. As a public person I consider myself fair game for the press. Press freedom, however, is not without its limits. Mr Balzan’s above contribution in my regard exceeds those limits. When Mr Balzan not only throws his uninformed invective and insinuations at me personally but also undermines the very office I occupy under the Constitution, then I regretfully am constrained to take legal action. I will shortly do just that.
