FDI to Malta decreases by 21 million euros

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows in Malta from the rest of the world during the first six months of
2009 decreased by €21 million over the same period last year, resulting in a net inflow of €207.2 million.
The National Statistics Office said a shortfall in reinvested earnings, together with decreases in both claims on and liabilities to direct investors abroad contributed to this outcome.
As for Maltese investment abroad, during the first half of 2009 this amounted to €18.7 million compared to a net outflow of €88.8 million in the corresponding period in 2008. The increase in equity capital abroad of €75.3 million last year was the result of a one-off transaction.
