Uglification of Balluta

When will the rape, ruin and destruction of the once beautiful Balluta stop? A little bay that was once a bigger bay soon to be a bay no longer, with a little square full of once-Mediterranean oak trees with the fountain commemorating water to Sliema, the lovely kiosk and benches soon to be uprooted and made to be the roof of some gigantic underground parking...
First the hotel – a great looming monster blotting out the sunset; flats, apartments, and the destruction of precious carob trees in the valley – and now this monstrous plan. There seems to have been a feasibility study to sustain this horrendous plan – I wonder if they thought about all the collection of rainwater and drains that burst every time there is heavy rain.
Balluta will soon become a polluted, ugly, little bay… noisy and crowded. Can a usually inefficient local council continue to destroy my beloved Balluta? If a car park needs to be built it can be built in Spinola where the bus terminus used to be. Not in the middle of a residential area full of shops and families.
