MCAST accessibility saga

I refer to the article in MaltaToday dated 30th August 2009 (“MCAST bidder’s premises inappropriate for disabled”). Future Focus would like to point out that contrary to that printed, its premises are fully equipped not only with ramps but also with a modern stair climber regularly used in public places all over Europe which is precisely designed for wheelchairs such as that published in the article. All its lecture rooms and administration facilities are accessible for persons with disabilities. Unfortunately, KNPD remains restricted in its views of how accessibility should be provided, particularly in premises of a certain historic value, resting itself solely on guidelines which were promulgated before modern accessibility facilities were created. Hence, your article and sub-title is misleading.

Editorial Note:
MaltaToday’s article and sub-title are not misleading.
The National Commission for Persons with Disability (KNPD) is the authority which vets accessibility of premises. Malta’s regulators also recognise the KNPD is the arbiter of accessibility issues in tender requirements and MaltaToday quoted verbatim the architect’s report that was commissioned by the KNPD.
