Illegal scrap yard found on Comino

An enforcement order has been issued by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority on a scrap yard and an illegal garage built on Comino.
The scrap yard is located inland, facing the western coast of the island in a location known as Pjazza l-Libertà, not far from the Santa Marija tower. The scrap yard was found containing motor vehicles, boats, cable reels, drums, appliances, furniture and pellets, a MEPA spokesperson said.
In another clampdown on abuses in Comino, MEPA confiscated some 400 deck chairs and 150 umbrellas hidden in various places around Comino island. MEPA’s intention was to remove the illegality taking place daily around the foreshore of Blue Lagoon. But on the day of its enforcement action, the operators did not turn up.
This prompted MEPA enforcement officers, together with personnel from the Gozo Police, the Administrative Law Enforcement unit and the Malta Maritime Authority, to search the island for any hidden equipment.
