PL defends cab drivers

Marie-Louise Coleiro, Prncipal Spokesperson on Tourism for the Labour Party, has joined the lists in defence of the karozzin. In a press statement issues yesterday she said that the Government was obliged to preserve this form of public transport as part of Malta’s tourism offer.
She criticised the government for having failed to consult the Association of Cab drivers before deciding to remove the cab stand from St George Square, Valletta thereby affecting the cab drivers’ earnings.
A number of karozzin owners had filed for an injunction to prevent their relocation from St George’s Square following a decision by the ADT but their request was turned down by the courts.
