Abortion yes, but not at taxpayers’ expense

I have read with great interest the feature published in MaltaToday concerning the abortion campaign by Birgitta Ohlsson. Notwithstanding my support to her campaign to secure the “right to safe and legal abortions and render it a human right” I cannot endorse the idea of the right to free abortions, unless the failure to provide one will jeopardize the patients’ life or put their health at risk.
Why should the taxpayer foot the bill for an act that in the great majority of cases is motivated by social or economic reasons?
