Hunting – a stain on Malta

I am writing to you to register my disgust at the continued cruel and savage treatment of birds and animals by certain sections of the Maltese community. I lived in Malta for a number of years and was always dismayed by the annual shooting of anything that moved. The birds and animals killed by shooting serve no purpose as the dead and mortally wounded are left on the ground to rot. Why?
I have told many people in the United Kingdom and other countries in the European Community of the acts of cruelty against the bird population. I know this has resulted in many people not making a visit to Malta and this can make a severe impact on the tourism industry and the Maltese economy in general.
The Maltese people are generally a kind and generous nation. Why let the stupid and cruel shooters continue in their acts against innocent creatures? Perhaps the Maltese government should send these people to Afghanistan and let the local people shoot at them.
