Pirates hijack Maltese vessel

A Maltese registered ship is reported to have been hijacked this morning in the Gulf of Aden. The 19,795 GT bulk carrier, mv Patriot, bound to Hodeidah, Republic of Yemen with a cargo of wheat, was attacked and seized this morning by pirates at around 6am local time whilst transiting the Gulf of Aden. At this stage, no information was available about the Polish Master, the Ukrainian Chief Engineer and the 15 Philippino crew members. The Malta Maritime Authority is in contact with the managers of the vessel and is liaising with various international authorities including the UKMTO Dubai co-ordination centre.
