MCA clarifies on mobile antennae

With reference to the article “MCA defends urban antennae” published on the MaltaToday on Sunday, 19 April 2009, the Malta Communications Authority (MCA) would like to clarify some issues arising from the article.
Irrespective of the location of the antenna, the operators are obliged to ensure that the EMF radiation does not exceed the limits as established in Maltese Law. As a matter of assurance, MCA audits transmission sites to assure that these obligations are respected by the operators. Contrary to what is reported in the article, the exposure readings obtained during the audit exercise show that the readings are typically below 5% of the acceptable safe limits as opposed to what was reported in the article.
