PN in scathing attack against Fenech Adami critic

The Nationalist Party has taken umbrage at columnist Joe Sammut for his article on the parliamentary motions passed last week, one in gratitude to Eddie Fenech Adami and his service to the country, and the other on the appointment of George Abela as president.
Entitled ‘The man of division’, Sammut wrote on Monday in his regular column in l-orizzont that the Opposition’s vote in favour of the motion of gratitude to Fenech Adami did not reflect what every Labourite felt towards the former prime minister.
“The vote did not go down well. It did not reflect and cannot represent what Labourites feel towards him. And he does not deserve any gratitude. Surely not from us,” Sammut wrote in his opening lines.
But in a scathing attack on the columnist’s freedom of expression, the PN denounced the article as “partisan, fierce and alleging that division in the country started in 1977” – the year of Fenech Adami’s election as PN leader.
“This attack is out of tune with the Opposition’s vote in favour of the motion so Opposition leader Joseph Muscat should disassociate himself and the Labour party from this infamous article,” the PN said, adding that Muscat should “condemn” the Labour candidate.
