Pullicino’s first year ‘marked by invisibility’ – Brincat

Opposition spokesperson for the environment Leo Brincat yesterday launched an offensive against George Pullicino’s first year of work at the ministry of resources and rural affairs.
Brincat said the ministry was still dragging its feet over the publication of the report on wind energy and the proposed wind farms. He said that on the other hand, had it not been for Labour’s insistence, the report on solid waste management would have never been published.
“While the minister told me personally that he could not pass on a copy of the strategy because it had not yet been finalised, the public consultation document says this report has already been finished,” Brincat said.
He added that the fact government was actively considering an incinerator for the south of the island in Marsaxlokk was a grave admission of failure on the government’s policy to reduce, reuse and recycle waste.
“A year since the general elections, the pledge to give each family energy-saving bulbs has not even been fulfilled yet, despite assurances by the minister that distribution would be starting ‘within weeks’,” Brincat said.
The Labour MP said the Malta Resources Authority was also delaying the processing of applications for subsidies on alternative energy, and that no energy conservation rules yet existed for new buildings. “This ministry’s first year has been marked by invisibility,” Brincat said.
