AFM evacuates Filipino sailor to hospital

A 27-year old Filipino sailor, Barnis Apollo, was Tuesday night medically evacuated by helicpoter to hospital whilst suffering from a severe fever’s high temperature.
The Armed Forces of Malta’s Rescue Co-ordination Centre at Luqa Barracks received an urgent request at 11:55pm from the Marshall Islands-registered motor tanker Overseas Sifnos.
As the vessel was located in a position some 14 nautical miles from the Grand Harbour, the crew were instructed to approach closer to Malta.
An Italian Air Force AB-212 helicopter, flown by a joint Italo-Maltese crew, was scrambled into the air to perform the medical evacuation to Mater Dei Hospital.
