€6m Air Malta contract falls through

Finance Minister Tonio Fenech confirmed on Monday evening in parliament that the national airline had lost out on a €6 million contract to rent out its airliners.
Every winter, Air Malta rents out its aircraft due to the seasonality of business. Fenech said Air Malta had attempted to rent out two aeroplanes to an airline based in the Ivory Coast, in Africa.
The contract was worth €6 million but no agreement could be reached with the Airline Pilots Association (ALPA). Fenech said an agreement was reached with the Union of Cabin Crew, Engineers’ Union and the General Workers’ Union on their workers’ conditions in Abidjan, where they were expected to be based.
