It seems that the editorial approach of MaltaToday (28 January 2009) suffers from the half-empty glass syndrome.
“Gazans wounded in Israeli air raid” says one headline, but when one delves into the article one finds that this was provoked by the killing of an Israeli soldier as a result of an attack from Gaza. Death is of less significance to the article writer than wounds.
“AD calls for relocation of Gozo law courts”, but the article shows that government has already decided to relocate the law courts. This “half-full glass” aspect is hidden further down in the article.
“Tourism in sharp decline in last quarter 2008” says another title in the paper that lambasted Mgr Philip Calleja for quoting migrant arrivals in the first three quarters of 2008 before the figures for the “last quarter 2008” could be known. Hidden in the article we come across the more than “half-full glass” aspect. Tourism in 2008 increased both in the number of tourist arrivals and nights spent.
