The Irish telecoms and media tycoon Denis O’Brien was revealed to have his tax domicile in Malta, according to British reports.
The founder of the Digicel mobile empire, who jets around the world on his Gulfstream to keep a check on his business empire, owns more than 40 radio stations in Europe and a 93-plane aircraft leasing operation.
For a globe-trotting businessman and tax exile, O’Brien still sends his four children to state-run primaries in Dublin, and he also pays half the salary of Republic of Ireland football manager Giovanni Trapattoni.
O’Brien’s big break came with a position at aeroplane leasing giant Guinness Peat Aviation, set up by Ryanair founder Tony Ryan. He went on to create Ireland’s second mobile phone network.
