Mugliett interview

Astrid Vella
Sliema

First of all, I would like to state that I do not know, I have never met nor have I ever spoken to Jesmond Mugliett or been even remotely involved in his Ministry or political career.
A short while ago, a highly respected acquaintance asked me to identify a journalist to interview Minister Mugliett. No one could have been more surprised than I was. However, he explained that they did not want a favourable interview, just an impartial one and, with this in mind, he felt it was more credible if the interview request came from an impartial person, rather than Ministry or official sources.
Bearing in mind that FAA has often been accused of having a secret (ie. anti-government) agenda, I concluded that this would finally prove that we have no partisan agenda. Never did I imagine that I would be dragged into a spat between journalists and politicians when the interview did not materialise.
Other than the one brief phone-call, I had nothing further to do with the Jesmond Mugliett case. Saviour Balzan is correct in saying that it is not our place to “save the minister”. In fact, neither FAA, nor I as an individual, have ever commented, publicly or even privately, on this matter and it is most unwarranted to suggest otherwise.
