St Paul’s Bay structure

Dion Borg
St. Paul’s Bay

How could the Malta Tourism Authority possibly miss out on the unique attraction adorning St. Paul’s Bay? Notwithstanding all the thousands of liri supposedly spent on concurrently attracting low cost airlines and quality tourists, there is no one promotional whisper/glimpse of the eye-catching platform! Where is the MTA’s consultants’ creativity… hands-on day trips… bungee jumping and abseiling experiences…. ministerial photo shoots!
Whilst some claim that it’s fine to sacrifice pristine land and hive off beaches for the (short-sighted) tourism excuse – apparently no public authority is lifting a finger on the matter, nor assuming responsibility day after day.
One can only wonder, if there’s this laissez-faire on such an imposing structure and evident impression it conveys, what is the extent of irresponsibility that subsists on less conspicuous operations which nonetheless have discreet but lasting effects – such as the nearby fish farms!
I have lost count of the years that have elapsed since Minister George Pullicino (albeit then only a Parliamentary Secretary) pronounced that all fish farms will be relocated miles off the coast – trust they’re still in a contemplation loop.
Maybe also MEPA’s PRO could belatedly but now ever opportunely, clarify what damages board members and other public officers are personally liable to, when it transpires that there was, at best, negligence, in timely decisions or lack thereof… notwithstanding that they might have “deprived” themselves of an Internal Auditor Office’s effective guidance!
