Mas Que Nada
Owen Jay will be spinning a selection of Brazilian soul, bossa, jazz and broken beat tonight at Surfside, Sliema from 9pm. Entrance is free.

Espionage
A night of funk, mod, freakbeat and more at Breakpoint, Ghadira Bay, Mellieha. Job, M.Vella and Owen Jay will be DJ-ing for the night. Doors open at 11pm and tickets (hotline 99290626) are at Lm1.50 or Lm2 at the door.

Collectif K.O.
A contemporary dance performance organized by the Summer University of Performing Arts at the MITP Theatre, St Christopher’s Street, Valletta. EXHIBITIONS

Chinese Musical Instruments
Exhibited at the St James Cavalier Main Hall, the items on display are carefully-selected distinctive instruments of both ancient and modern China, which will provide visitors with a comprehensive view of Chinese instrumental culture.

Le Valentin
Exhibition of the Judith and Holofernes painting by Le Valentin de Boulogne, recently restored by Heritage Malta’s Conservation Division. Organised by Heritage Malta to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Caravaggio’s stay in Malta, at the Contempoary Hall, National Museum of Fine Arts, Valletta. Open Monday to Sunday from 9.00am to 5.00pm (Last Admission 4.30pm).

Malta in Fantasy
Anastasia Ponyatovskaya is holding an exhibition at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, entrance to the Cotoner Hall. The main door is the corner with North Street and Mediterranean Street , Valletta. Opening hours from 10am till 7pm. All items will be on sale.

Body of Glass – After Caravaggio
Vince Briffa will be presenting a video and audio installation at the cellars of Auberge d’Italie. It forms part of ‘Caravaggio – quote… unquote’, an exhibition of contemporary art by five artists in five different spaces, curated by Dr. Keith Sciberras and co-ordinated by Davinia Galea.
The exhibition addresses the body as being simultaneously object and subject of experience. Echoing Caravaggio’s chiaroscuro idiom in its overall aesthetic, the video work concerns the human flesh and its reaction to harassment set in the contrasts of light and shade.
The exhibition is open between Monday and Friday (9.00am - 6.00pm) and Saturday (9.00am - noon).

Tila
A collective exhibition of paintings and sculpture at the Heritage Malta Head Office, Merchants Street, Valletta including artists Dominic Dimech, Astrid Zammit, Nadege Cassar, Josephine Cachia, Noel Petroni and Kevin Attard. Free Entrance. Open from 8am to 4pm.

Layers
Gallery G will be hosting an exhibition of Julian Calabrese’s paintings.
The exhibition halls and the gallery shop (no 4, Sir Ugo Mifsud Street, Lija) are open to the public between 9am and 5pm on weekdays and 9:30am and 12:30pm on Saturdays.

Voyage & Voir: Travellers of the Grand Tour
Exhibition organised by Heritage Malta and the Comune Palazzolo Acreide as part of EU programme Interreg IIIA Italia – Malta, at the St Angelo Hall, Malta Maritime Museum, Vittoriosa. Open Monday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm (last admission 4.30pm).

Tomorrow
Student’s Concert
Evenings on Campus will close with a concert performed by young musicians – some of whom are current students, others graduates of the University.
This concert, co-ordinated by young graduate, Marie Eloise Spiteri, is a musical performance which will have wide appeal. One will have the opportunity to listen to various musical genres, such as a piano classical performance by Charlene Farrugia, classic lyrical songs consisting of solo numbers and even duets by Joseph Lia, Stephanie Cachia Camilleri and Claire Ghigho, classical pop songs by Johanna Galea accompanied on the piano by Abigail Brown and soft rock by the group ‘Wax’, as well as a duo performing jazz – Chris Porter and Samuel Hayman.
The event will be held at 8.30pm at the Atriju Vassalli.Tickets at Lm2 will be available at the door or from the Agenda on Campus as well as MIA, Plaza, Embassy Pavi outlets. Evenings on Campus this year is supported by KPMG and BOV.

11 August
Can you take it?
Loathe will be sharing the stage with Scarlet Drop (Sweden) and Dying Signals at Poxx Bar, Paceville. This will be Loathe’s last gig before they record their 3rd EP. Doors open at 8:30pm and entrance is at Lm3.

10, 11, 12 August
Karavan Petlor!
Etnikafe will be presenting an amusing and witty show that wears its Malteseness on it’s sleeve at the Old Opera House Ruins in Valleta, 9pm.
This year’s concert features a new repertoire dealing with themes that reflect local social and environmental issues like immigration, hunting, urbanization and over-development, with songs like Merill Bang Bang, Kollox Tal-Plastik, Klandestini Rock, Bejgh u Bejgh, Sicca Ska and a Twistees Samba.

Poetry Night
Maltese and Egyptian poetry will be read at the Auberge d’Italie courtyard. The event will include members of the Lixandra Project and will start at 9pm. Entrance is free.
