Police arrest 10 over botched hold-up

Ten persons are reportedly being held in custody and are being interrogated by the police over the failed hold-up on an armoured vehicle allegedly carrying €2.8 million in cash, late on Monday morning.
Police sources have revealed that investigators are close to identifying the gang that put into motion the elaborated plan to the attempted heist, some of whom reportedly proved “positive” to gun shot residue.
Several shots were fired in an attempt to force open the doors to the armoured vehicle, while a stolen tractor and two vans were also used in the attempted robbery.
The same sources revealed that at least ten persons were being held at the Floriana HQ in a bid to also identify the master-minds behind the hold up which is thought to have been planned months ago.
A series of searches in homes and garages were made yesterday in different localities, mostly in Qormi, Zabbar and in Birkirkara, while forensic experts have been working around the clock to match prints and other evidence lifted from the scene of crime and in other places.
All vehicles that were used in the robbery were all reported stolen months ago, while police have not excluded that an informant inside the security company may have been involved, as the thieves allegedly knew of the timings, route and the contents of the armoured
