Woman critical after bizarre accident

A 50-year-old woman is in danger of dying after sustaining grievous injuries in a bizarre road accident in Marsaxlokk yesterday morning.
The woman – who is also from Marasxlokk – was hit by a van while walking with another woman on a pavement in Triq il-Luzzu. The van, which was driven by a man from the same village, was hit by another car whose driver lost control.
On impact, the van crashed into a lamp post and careered onto the pavement hitting the two women.
An ambulance was rushed to the scene and took the two women to Mater Dei hospital. While one woman was certified to be critical, the other who is 53 years old was kept for observation. While a Magisterial inquiry was underway, the road was closed for traffic for at least four hours.
