Declaration Martin Degiorgio vs Saviour Balzan

Reference is made to the court case ‘Martin Degiorgio vs Saviour Balzan,’ pro et nomine’ pending before the court of Magistrates (Malta).
Saviour Balzan declares that the contents of the article so featured in this newspaper published on 21, May, 2006, and entitled, ‘How to stop an extremist and deal with the Red Brigade’, and on the 4, June, 2006 and entitled ‘A wake up call’, and 11,February, 2007, entitled ‘The inconvenient truth’, were never intended to offend or to slander Martin Degiorgio.
Saviour Balzan would also like to state that the opinion was aimed to rebut and contest the state of affairs which led to the writing of the article.
Saviour Balzan is satisfied that Martin Degiorgio was using his democratic right of expressing his personal political opinion.
It did not result that Martin Degiorgio had, as claimed by this newspaper, acted, spoken or written against any person or persons of a particular race in a racist manner, neither attacked anybody for his creed or sexual orientation, nor that he acted in any anti-democratic manner or incited any form of violence against third parties.
Furthermore he never had any connections with Norman Lowell or his political movement.
Saviour Balzan states that his opinions were never intended to give rise to any prejudice against Martin Degiorgio personally or against his family-run businesses.
Any misunderstanding is therefore regretted.
