Time catches up with everyone

For the past 22 years we had a Nationalist government which reigned haphazardly over us for its own capricious purposes. After draining a once-strong economy, which made us all proud and which formed the base for a healthy middle class, this government is now turning on the rest of us to regain its own ruined pride and re-fuel the treasury tank from our backs.
This is unacceptable! We did not sail the seas to arrive on this island. We were born here. This is our island too and we will not let you run it to our detriment. No, dear government! We are ready to stop your anti-social policies, your arrogance, your tricks and your falsehearted ways of doing politics.
The anger that you have now regarding Malta’s economic crisis you have brought on yourself with your negligence, arrogance and severe loss of care over the finances of the country. If you are so sure that we are living better today than when under Labour in government and that people are living an easier life due to your ‘outstanding performance’, then it shouldn’t be a problem for you to go for an early general election! Don’t you feel the sadness on this nation’s face? Don’t you see in what state we are in? Or is your solitary eye already pierced? Yes, we want change, but we do not want you or any of your lap dog institutions to preach to us how to run our own lives.
What cheek to tell us to make further sacrifices, when you are constantly choking the hard-earned investments our ancestors left for us and our children. You are just like the giant Polyphemus – you cannot prevail over an island by looking through one eye, a single perspective; because surely the day will come when arrogant blindness will overthrow you into an ocean of a political commotion. The PN’s record sheet falls nothing short of an insane brainwashing agenda which has brought nothing but separation of families, illusive dreams and a stiff economic calamity.
Take a good look around you and see the pain of our people if you honestly care about their wellbeing. Look at the middle class, the self-employed and the class of lower-wage workers that you continue to squeeze and dispose with your anti-social measures; not at budget time, but all the time.
Look at our children, those you are indirectly injecting with dozes of sorrows each day, because when you are breaking their parents’ backs, you are hurting them too. They are not at fault, but you do not care about them. You only care about those business-minded donors who are fuelling your prime-ministerial quest for power every five years and are funding the lavish life of a handful of your ministers and those very close to them. The economic infection which you brought on us with your own dirty hands is contaminating many families and is cursing our nation upon the highest EU ranks of financial embarrassments.
But time catches up with everyone and forgives no one. Your party’s term in power is coming to an end. In the next big showdown there will be no ‘extra time’ to save you from defeat. Odysseus has now arrived. His determination coupled by words of hope and courage are entering the hearts of many. Especially the ones you ignored, the ones you separated and the ones you betrayed. They will be the same people that in the next general election will be penciling out of office and end once and for all your anti-social governing conduct.
